£17-18 per hour +

Full time-office based role -35 hours per week

 (Flexible working with core hours 10am-4pm)  

Temporary assignment potential to lead to a permanent role

We are recruiting for an Assistant Accountant on a temporary to permanent basis to start ASAP.

You will be joining a small team for a well-established organisation based in the WC1 area.

The Assistant Accountant plays a key role within the Finance team, providing comprehensive support across the transactional finance function. The role ensures accurate and timely data input to maintain reporting integrity and supports the Finance Manager with periodic processes, including month-end cycles and year-end audits.

Responsibilities:

Income/Membership:

  • Full ownership of sales ledger
  • Processing of monthly direct debit 3 cycles for membership contributions
  • Processing of monthly Check Off including liaison with fire brigades and membership department
  • Process membership refunds
  • Process changes of officials’ roles in Access including assigning new accounts with correct approval
  • Lottery Income – including posting monthly journal and preparing reconciliation

Purchase Ledger:

  • Processing of supplier invoices for HO and regions
  • Weekly payment runs to include supplier BACS, Education exps, AIF and ad-hoc payments
  • Prompt allocation of payments to invoices in Dimensions
  • Full ownership of Equals+ Lloyds cards management and maintenance
  • Auditing and examining transactions in detail and challenging where necessary

Management Accounts:

  • Assist Finance Manager with preparation of management accounts for month end
  • Prepayments and accruals reconciliations, gathering all evidence and support, posting journals, maintaining audit compliant schedules
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Run monthly regional expenses for payroll

 Housekeeping:

  • Management of Accounts inbox, ensuring all queries and invoices are captured and resolved in a timely manner
  • Maintain supplier accounts in good order, ensuring they are regularly reconciled (HO)
  • Liaising, assisting and training Regional Treasurers on all relevant financial matters
  • Assist during year-end audit exercise
  • Documenting processes and procedures in a clear and organised manner
  • Any other tasks as set out by Finance Manager

Requirements and skills

  • Be a great communicator and understand the impact of one’s actions or inactions on the wider business
  • Must be a self-starter with strong initiative and good problem-solving skills
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy essential
  • Candidates actively studying or looking to start a Professional Accounting Qualification (i.e., ACCA, CIMA, etc) is desirable
  • Strong excel skills are essential. The ability to manipulate large data sets is preferred
  • Experience with MS Office, Accounting packages; Databases and various online platforms is essential.
  • Knowledge of Access Evo is beneficial, but X-training can be provided
  • Quick and enthusiastic learner
  • Good team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to balance a sense of urgency in everything they do
  • Previous experience gained within a membership or not for profit organisation would be desirable but not essential
