HR Manager

Based in Sutton, Surrey, Salary: £45,000 per annum + car allowance 

We are currently recruiting for a HR Manager.  This is an exciting role to work as a member of the HR team providing a professional HR support service to staff and Managers to support the development of the organisation and its business objectives.  You will advise on and implement policies relating to the effective use of resources within the business and to ensure that managers are supporting employees to work to their full potential and achieve the overall objectives of the company.

 Person Specification:

 Degree educated, CIPD Level 7 desirable

  • HR Generalist at Advisor level exposure essential
  • Must have knowledge and skills to update HR policy and processes.
  • Car owner/driver essential – must be able to travel to multiple sites.
  • Working Knowledge of HR Relations, including grievance and disciplinary
  • Possess up to date employment law knowledge
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Safeguarding knowledge in a school or care setting desirable
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid MS office skills
  • Knowledge of GDPR and impact
  • As strong relationship builder with skills to easily gain trust
  • Able to work independently whilst being part of a wider geographically spread team.
  • Good administration skills, high level of accuracy

Key Responsibilities: – 

  • Work as part of the HR team, working closely with all departments, predominantly in an advisory role, assisting line managers to understand and implement HR related policies and procedures.
  • Promote equality and diversity as part of the culture of the organisation.
  • As part of the HR team, review and maintain HR Policy documents, staff handbooks and employee contracts in line with changes in legislation.
  • Take the lead on significant ER issues including complex disciplinary and grievance matters, performance management, acting within legislative boundaries and consistency of approach.
  • Work as part of the HR team, working closely with all departments, predominantly in an advisory role, assisting line managers to understand and implement HR related policies and procedures.

  • Support the business in change management including team restructuring and, redundancy management and avoidance where possible.
  • Support the Group Recruitment Manager in the efficient functioning of the Recruitment department on site and be a point for escalation.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers and manage relationships within the wider business.
  • Support and assist the day to day function of the homes and schools, meeting regularly with managers to ensure that all actions agreed are completed.
  • Support liaise with payroll to ensure all remuneration information and changes are communicated and actioned within the payroll deadlines.
  • Identify HR file audit requirements, oversee any audit and ensure actions are completed timely.
  • Evaluate and communicate associated risks of commercial decisions and provide reasonable alternative options for consideration to reach desired outcomes.
  • Negotiate with staff and their representatives including Trade Unions.
  • Manage significant absences including long term sick and work-related injury caseload; maternity and paternity.
  • Manage flexible working requests, monitor progress and ensure review meetings are held and documented.
  • Maintain MI information regarding staffing, absences and current issues ensuring accuracy and up to date information.
  • Advise on succession planning, develop strategies considering site staffing requirements; undertake benchmarking and salary reviews.
  • Conduct training needs analysis, write training material and deliver as appropriate.
  • Identify, undertake and oversee projects in order to enhance the HR service provision.
  • Be flexible and adaptable when approaching situations, providing credible, firm advice to reflect difficult, evolving situations.
  • Identify personal training needs and attend appropriate training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
  • Adhere to the Employee Handbook and all Company policies and procedure; particularly those relating to HR/Recruitment compliance.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by management.
